Institutional investment managers are required to submit a Form 13F each quarter according the Securities Exchange Act of 1934. This submission can provide insight into a fund's holdings, and insight into the aggregate holdings of a particular security across all filers or a certain group of filers.
CapitalCortex started as a research project, which aimed to aggregate publicly available 13F filings to evaluate the activity of various hedge funds.
This process evolved over time and eventually the CapitalCortex web interface to the database was created to allow public access.
